Title: Problems and possibilities in connection with nonlinear system
identification.

Abstract:

An overview of nonlinear black-box and nonlinear semi-physical
identification is given. Different popular paradigms such as
neural nets and fuzzy modeling are introduced and explained in a
general setting. Non-linear generalizations of the linear
black-box models are discussed and analyzed. Differences and
similarities to other model structures, and especially to linear
identification are discussed. What are the pitfalls? What are the
possibilities? Semi-physical identification, where black-box
models are combined with structures based on physical knowledge,
is also considered.

Without going into too much details, fundamental properties of
practical importance in the identification process are discussed
and illustrated.
