We anticipate a large expansion in the area of media engineering following LTU's recents efforts in undergraduate education within the area. The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering has been commissioned to establish media engineering as a strategically important area of research and education. Therefore, we wish to recruit a media engineering group leader. We expect good funding opportunities and we will supply startup funds for the research group within the field.
Subject Description: The research area of media engineering includes studying and applying storage, distribution, production and presentation of media, including real-time media such as audio, video, music and animations. It also includes non real-time media such as pictures, text, graphics and other kinds of data. Storage includes efficient media coding, indexing and retrieval. Distribution concerns the way in which media can be efficiently and scaled and transported over networks. Presentation includes different ways of presenting media to a user.
Qualifications: A person must show scientific and educational skills to be a qualified for a post as professor.
The position is expected to initiate and develop the research within the field of media engineering, to lead research projects and supervise graduate students and to lead and participate in teaching and course development, mainly within media engineering.
Methods of Assesment: The following methods of assesments are applied: Scientific skills, Pedagogical skills. The following criterions will also be considered: the ability to lead and develop activites and staff, experience in planning and implementing academic undergraduate education, experience in project management and supervising graduate students, the ability of being an entrepeneur of research, and ability to cooperate across traditional disciplines and with the surrounding society.
